Every Man’s Duty
There is a belief among people who consider themselves Christians that the Law given by God on Mount Sinai was intended only for the people of Israel.

But this is not biblical, and therefore it is not divine either.

For God’s Law did not come into existence at that time. It existed before the earth even existed. Even Abraham obeyed it, and God Himself bore witness to this, as we see here:

“Because Abraham obeyed My word and kept My commandments, My decrees, My statutes, and My laws.” Genesis 26:5.
It is interesting that those who propose the thesis that God’s Law need not be obeyed or kept by Christians in the new dispensation of grace make this claim solely because of the fourth commandment of God’s Law, which refers to the sanctification of the Sabbath.

Another argument for seeking to exempt themselves from obedience to the fourth commandment is the claim that what men call the “Old Testament” has been abolished. Yet they say that the Bible is the word of God, even though Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Word will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35.

God’s Law was given to the nation of Israel as His covenant with that nation, serving as a legislative foundation. The other ordinary laws were given through angels to Moses, and the ordinances contained therein were to be observed for a limited time. That is why it says in Ephesians:

“Christ abolished the law of the COMMANDMENTS IN THE FORM OF ORDINANCES, so that out of the two He might create in Himself one new humanity, making peace.” Ephesians 2:15.

However, God Himself says that He will never invalidate what came from His lips. And this refers to the only thing He spoke aloud to the people who came out of Egypt—a mixed group of people, not just Hebrews. See:

“The Angel of the Lord went from Gilgal to Bokim and said, ‘I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never revoke my covenant with you.’” Judges 2:1.

And His covenant consists of the Ten Commandments. See:

“Then He proclaimed His covenant—which He commanded you—the Ten Commandments, and wrote them on two stone tablets.” Deuteronomy 4:13.

And if all that were not enough, God says this:

“The conclusion of the matter, after all that has been heard, is this: Fear God and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, FOR THIS IS THE DUTY OF EVERY PERSON.” Ecclesiastes 12:13.

It is a blessing to rest on the day when God ceased the work He had done in six days, which is why He blessed the Sabbath day. And everyone who also rests on that day is blessed by God.

Therefore, it is your duty as well to rest your soul and spirit from all servile and worldly work.
